SEEKING HELP - FINDING A THERAPIST OR TREATMENT PROGRAM

One of the most important (yet often frustrating) tasks you will be faced with is selecting the therapist or therapeutic program that best meets your needs.  

Unfortunately, there are many therapists and programs that should be avoided.  For example, in recent years various psychological problems, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), have received considerable media attention. As a result, some therapists have simply jumped on the bandwagon.  Although they may present themselves as able to offer help for a particular problem, the only training they may have had is a couple of workshops and some limited experience.

In choosing a therapist or program, you have the right to shop around and ask questions. To do this, you may need to overcome the passivity and low self‑esteem that plague so many people who suffer emotionally.  But it is vital that you convince yourself that you deserve a therapist or program that is best suited to your needs.
